Our Company originated outside of Albany, NY in 1945. As a returning veteran, Richard Long Sr.
drew on his wartime experience and constructed log cabins in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.
Frequently these homes were furnished with his handcrafted furniture. As his reputation for
quality and service grew, it became necessary to expand. To meet the increased demand, the
office in Slingerlands was expanded to become a building supply center. Everything needed to
build a complete home including outdoor furniture and fencing.During the mid 1950's, there
was a great demand from private parks and campgrounds for quality outdoor furniture,
consequently the furniture shop was expanded and casual furniture and picnic tables became
major products. During this period, the New York state park system was established. Long Lumber
furnished the tables for Bear Mountain State Park, which was the first state park to open.
Soon other parks opened across the state and Long Lumber furnished the tables, benches, chairs
and a host of other supplies.
During the 1960's and 1970's, while continuing to supply the commercial parks, the
company expanded into the consumer based causal furniture and fencing markets. Many dealerships were established, markets were expanded, and products were shipped to most of the fifty states.
During the 1980's and 1990's Long Lumber further expanded its retail line by establishing a
large indoor showroom where casual furniture and fencing could be viewed year around
regardless of the weather. The indoor and outdoor displays complemented each other by
providing consumers with a large selection.
Today Long Lumber is managed by a team effort of three generations of the Long family
working from the original location established in 1945. We continue to supply parks and
municpalities with picnic tables, benches, fencing and other cedar products. We also
manufacture a unique line of casual furniture and fencing for the home owner. We are proud
of our quality products and hope they will bring you years of enjoyment.
